Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Lab Testing, the Instrumentation Engineer – Laboratory Testing is responsible for the hands-on use of equipment and learning new skills, as well as building knowledge of technical, analytical, and universal support for assigned laboratory and field testing funded by various stakeholders and commercial clients of MxV Rail. In this role, the employee will design, set up, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and utilize test machines and instrumentation to gather data from physical test environments. Employees must fulfill the obligations herein without sacrificing safety or quality. The individual is responsible for supporting a teamwork culture and promoting a mutually respectful and cooperative environment at MxV Rail and field locations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Will serve as a hands-on technical lead for the instrumentation department, supporting projects for MxV Rail's internal and external customers.
- Assist leadership with understanding project needs, both from a budgetary and a technical perspective, and ensure that the leadership team is actively informed of issues and the status of projects.
- Expand knowledge base and proficiency toward expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining systems and equipment, including electrical (low-voltage), mechanical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Develop skills and understanding of instrumentation installation, test machine setup and maintenance, data collection, and troubleshooting related to the use of transducers, data collection equipment, or hydraulic test equipment, as well as the calibration of these devices.
- Develop knowledge and proficiency in methods of collecting, analyzing, and properly submitting data in all forms associated with internal measurement standard operating procedures & data integrity norms.
- Master basic skillset proficiency through mentorship and oversight by experienced technical leaders and guide and support technicians on projects.
- Takes opportunities to communicate actively and openly with management and teammates regarding the time, materials, and constraints of assigned projects.
- Conforms to and promotes all MxV Rail Safety and Personnel policies, procedures, and culture.
- Ensures that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
