Job Duties
An Assistant Principal at a charter school plays a vital role in supporting the school’s mission, ensuring academic excellence, and maintaining a positive school culture.
1. Instructional Leadership
- Lead professional development sessions and mentor new teachers.
- Analyze student achievement data to drive instructional decisions and interventions.
- Attend monthly Governing Council meetings
- Assist with Charter School Renewal, budget planning, and yearly planning.
2. Student Discipline & Behavior Management
- Enforce school policies related to student behavior, discipline, and attendance.
- Implement positive behavior support strategies and restorative practices.
- Work with students, teachers, and families to address behavior concerns and develop intervention plans.
- Ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
3. School Operations & Compliance
- Assist in coordinating daily school operations, including scheduling, transportation, and facility management.
- Ensure compliance with charter school policies, state regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Supervise arrival, dismissal, lunch, and other non-instructional periods.
4. Testing & Data-Driven Decision Making
- Oversee standardized testing logistics and ensure smooth administration; complete testing coordinator training as a backup for the DTC.
- Support teachers in using data to drive instructional improvements.
5. Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with parents and communicate school expectations and student progress.
- Organize parent meetings, workshops, and school events to foster community involvement.
- Address parent concerns and collaborate with families to support student success.
- Monitor staff attendance and facilitate attendance meetings
6. Teacher & Staff Support
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, and evaluating teachers and staff.
- Foster a collaborative and professional working environment among faculty and staff.
- Step in for the principal when needed and serve as a leadership presence in the school.
- Lead professional development in Restorative Practice.
7. School Culture & Mission Alignment
- Uphold and promote the charter school’s mission, vision, and values.
- Model high expectations for students and staff while fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
- Support extracurricular activities, enrichment programs, and student leadership initiatives. Other duties as assigned by Principal or Head Administrator.
