The Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) is adding to our team! Founded in 1996, ACU is a uniquely transdisciplinary membership network dedicated to improving the health of America’s underserved populations and supporting the clinicians that serve them.
We’re seeking someone equally committed to that cause to become our new Membership & Communications Manager (M&CM). The M&CM will serve as an integral part of ACU’s Communications, Membership, and Special Initiatives team, which propels the organization’s public-facing communications, member network, and special programmatic initiatives.
The M&CM will help drive ACU’s membership retention and recruitment efforts, helping manage, expand, and support our national network by cultivating strong relationships with members, ensuring satisfaction and retention, and driving membership growth. This staff member will also help tell our story creatively to a broader community through writing, content creation, and storytelling initiatives. Secondarily, this individual will support select initiatives to aid our network, including our Suicide Safer Care & Behavioral Health programs.
This position will report to ACU’s Senior Director of Communications, Membership, & Special Initiatives.
Supporting Membership, Communications, & Other Initiatives at ACU
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Help Drive Membership Recruitment and Retention Initiatives
- Help manage membership recruitment efforts at ACU through prospect research, member outreach and meetings, and development of collateral (e.g., fliers, one-pagers, etc.)
- Help manage membership retention and satisfaction efforts at ACU by developing member communications, organizing and facilitating member events and activities, and ensuring awareness of benefits to maintain a lively community and increase awareness of membership’s value.
- Manage ACU’s membership records, maintaining, updating, and expanding ACU’s Salesforce database and collecting metrics and reports as needed
- Support the development and maintenance of relationships with Corporate Allies
- Actively engage with members to understand their needs, interests, and feedback and respond promptly and professionally to member inquiries and concerns.
Create Communications for ACU’s Network and Community
- Develop content for email marketing via Constant Contact or other platforms
- Help maintain, update, and create website content on ACU’s www.clinicians.org website and member portal
- Create member-relevant content, such as interviews, spotlights, or multimedia pieces highlighting members of our network
- Support creation of high-quality social media content on ACU’s channels, as well as storytelling initiatives on ACU’s blog and multimedia
- Update, manage, and research additions to ACU’s contact and media lists and collect metrics and reports as needed
Support Special Programmatic Initiatives
- Provide logistical support and assist in development of relevant trainings or deliverables to ensure successful execution of ACU’s Behavioral Health and Suicide Safer Care programs
- Provide logistical support and collection of attendance and evaluation data for virtual trainings, as well as ACU’s in-person Behavioral Health Leadership Forum
- Perform additional duties as needed, including taking part in ACU’s Annual Conference, Strategic Planning, representing ACU at industry events, and other processes.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, or marketing is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of applicable experience in membership management and communications positions
- Experience working with associations and healthcare organizations (including health centers) is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing, content creation, and familiarity with platforms such as Constant Contact, WordPress, and Canva
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, G-Suite, and Zoom or similar platforms
- Proficiency in using CRM systems (such as Salesforce) or other relevant software.
- Database and project management experience or willingness to learn preferred
- Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, and approaches problem-solving creatively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships
- Authorized to work in the United States

- Pay: Annual salary range of $62,000 – 67,000
- Supervisory Relationships: None
- Other Considerations: Domestic Travel for meetings and conferences, up to 10% annually

Location: ACU Headquarters is located in Washington, DC. This is a remote position. You must reside in one of the following states: Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah
