Position Summary : The Director, Data Quality is a leadership role in the Business Intelligence department of University Advancement (UA) at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) that serves as a subject matter expert on UA donor and gift data. Audits and organizes large data sets, collaborating internally to foster enhanced data accuracy for operational, reporting, and analytical purposes. Presents information to peers and leadership. Compiles data and completes internal information requests and external membership organization and peer surveys. Responsible for leading and developing a team of data coordinators that comprise Data Quality. This position reports to the Executive Director of Data & Analytics in Business Intelligence.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities :

Operations

  • Protect the integrity of and mitigate risk to CRM through the design and implementation of audits and best practices for opportunity data management and gift reporting.
  • Collaborate with Salesforce / ARCH technical team in testing integrations.
  • Collaborate with Gift Operations, Record Management, Prospect Management, and Prospect Research on data integrity.
  • Work with external vendors as needed on integrations and other third-party services.

Reporting

  • Apply problem-solving skills and data mining techniques to identify and / or address anomalies.
  • In collaboration with Data Analytics, highlight trends to help leadership predict outcomes, mitigate risks, and maximize opportunities within UA.
  • Through data blending, create, test and implement complex, ad hoc reports including for special initiatives e.g., gift campaigns, challenges, cash forecasting, and other UA initiatives.
  • Design data and information solutions for projects and requests that cannot be fulfilled through standard system-generated reports.
  • Responsible for data oversight for the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor.
  • External Surveys and Reporting

  • Lead the UA response to external survey requests that impact the university’s external rankings and / or serve to further comparative analyses and benchmarking.
  • Evaluate questions, compile data, and develop responses to annual higher education surveys including Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s VSE, U.S. News & World Report, etc.
  • Data Quality and Special Projects

  • Contribute subject matter expertise of CRM data, reports, and business processes.
  • Audit non-UA WashU data sets for new entities to identify errors and submit for correction; coordinate cleansed data imports into University Advancement CRM.
  • Evaluate and promote effective data hygiene efforts to maintain and increase data quality, prioritize data hygiene projects, and strengthen documentation and efficiency of business processes and procedures within UA and University partners.
  • Proactively share expertise during the design and post-implementation phases of WashU and UA integration projects.
  • Collaborate with Data Services, Data Analytics, Gift Operations, Records Management, and CRM teams to build effective data tracking, monitoring, and auditing tools.
  • Training and Development

  • Collaborate with UA training teams to suggest innovative ideas for new and / or improved UA learning offerings and develop responses to frequently asked CRM and data questions.
  • Deliver in-person and virtual training classes.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and mentor a team of full-time department staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Supervisory and significant management experience in donor relations, major gifts, event management and project administration preferred.
  • Ability to accurately apply professionalism and judgment skills in all situations, especially related to management, donor issues and budgets.
  • Ability and flexibility to work outside of the normal workday / office hours including evenings and weekends.

    Grade

    Salary Range

    75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / Annually. The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
