School Name : Terra Verde Discovery SchoolPosition Summary : Terra Verde Discovery School is an independent and progressive coeducational Pre-K through 8th grade day school in central Oklahoma. In the fall of 2024, we began 9th grade at Terra Verde with plans of adding a grade each year until we reach 12th grade. We are seeking a visionary Head of School who will collaborate with the Board of Directors to advance the school’s founding mission, support the high school expansion, ensure academic excellence, foster a positive school culture, and engage with the community.This is an exciting time at Terra Verde as we implement a multi-directional long-term strategic plan. This plan includes the development and growth of our high school and the launch of a capital campaign to fund necessary student scholarships, infrastructure, and an endowment. The new Head of School must inspire trust and confidence in the school's mission and uphold a culture of respect, independent thinking, creativity, responsibility, and integrity.Mission : The mission of Terra Verde Discovery School is to preserve the joys of childhood while cultivating creativity, critical thinking, entrepreneurial enthusiasm, ecological sustainability, ethical benevolence, and inclusion. We are committed to instilling a love of learning through intellectual adventures that diverge from traditional public education. Our goal is to enable children to develop an ethical approach to relationships, realize their full potential, and believe in their ability to effect positive change.We expect a 100% graduation rate, ensuring our students are well-prepared for high school and college. We aspire to lead Oklahoma schools in environmental education, academics, expectations, and results.Program Highlight : Terra Verde Discovery School is also home to Transitions, an academic and social program for students with developmental delays aged 14 to 21. Through small group instruction, Transitions students receive support to reach their individual academic, social, vocational, and physical potential. This program provides a roadmap to independent living beyond high school and confers an alternative diploma.History : Pete and Shelly Wilson founded Terra Verde Discovery School in August of 2010 with one teacher / director and eight students. The school is the result of years of the Wilsons' research, preparation, and passion for providing a top-tier education for their own children and those in the Norman community. They had a vision for their children to have the best education possible and learn to be critical thinkers, not just good test-takers. At Terra Verde, children are connected with nature and have compassion for others.Campus Setting : Set on 61 sprawling acres in Norman, OK, the campus features a pond, gardens, and woodlands that provide ample opportunities for nature-based learning. We build a love of nature in our students by integrating outdoor lessons into our curriculum. In 2015, our students and parents completed a construction project that culminated in a beautiful outdoor classroom, including a covered bridge, classroom seating, and even a fairy house. The school has constructed three new buildings and renovated five existing structures to enhance educational achievement and environmental sustainability. • An accomplished leader in education.
• A bachelor’s degree and / or a master’s degree in education or a related field (doctorate preferred).
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of policies and best practices related to school administration.
