What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parish Music Director position at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish?
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in West Grove, PA is located an hour from Philadelphia by car. We are hoping to hire a Parish Music Director. He or she will play the organ for two or three Masses on the weekend. Responsibilities include:
- Scheduling and training cantors;- Planning the music for all liturgies except those played by the contemporary parish group; - Playing the organ for Sunday Masses and funerals, weddings, holy days, services of Holy Week, Confirmation, First Communion, School Graduation, Stations of the Cross and Adoration on Wednesdays of Lent in the evening, and other parish events;- Overseeing the Bell Choir (we have a director for it);
- Attending Liturgy Committee meetings;
- Arranging for tuning or repair of the organ and piano.
Required skills and education:
- formal training or equivalent experience in classical or sacred music;
- familiarity with the Mass and Seasons of the Latin Rite;
- must be an accomplishment organist;- must have a love for the celebration of the Eucharist and be an active Catholic. Hours and Benefits:
This is a competitively salaried position based on education, skills, and experience. The Parish Music Director receives the benefits of a full-time parish employee, including health insurance, pension, and life insurance. There is paid vacation.
