ASSYST is currently seeking a highly skilled Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator to join the Railroad Commission of Texas. This role requires expertise in managing, maintaining, and supporting IMS databases within a z/OS environment.
Job Title: Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator
Duration: 5 Months Contract
IMPORTANT: This position is for a hands-on Application IMS DBA, not for a DB2 DBA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to mainframe IMS application teams.
- Ensure high availability of IMS databases across development, acceptance, and production environments.
- Conduct performance monitoring, tuning, backup, and recovery of IMS databases.
- Perform routine system administration functions, including security and performance monitoring.
- Support processes and coordinate mainframe operations within the State’s Consolidated Data Center Services (DCS).
- Collaborate with various teams such as Network Administration, Customer Support, and Application Development.
- Assist with testing mainframe software upgrades and disaster recovery plans.
- Maintain production control and job scheduling on the mainframe.
- Provide after-hours support for batch mainframe schedules involving COBOL and JCL programs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience with z/OS Systems platform.
- Strong expertise in mainframe IMS database administration, including DBRC and forward recoveries.
- Proficiency in z/OS utilities: TSO, SYSVIEW, SDSF, and IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14).
- Experience with Batch and CICS COBOL, IMS programming, and problem resolution.
- Skilled in developing and troubleshooting complex JCL.
- Proficiency in JCL, CICS, VSAM, and TSO.
- Experience writing, analyzing, and debugging REXX programs in a z/OS environment.
- Knowledge of IMS HAL databases and IMS Catalog.
- Familiarity with Top Secret setup, administration, and reporting.
- Experience maintaining mainframe printer assignments, including IPPrintway.
- Experience working with ISPF panels, skeletons, and REXX code.
- Knowledge of ISMF storage functions and batch SFTP/FTPS processing.
- Working experience with Informatica Power Exchange software.
- Expertise in logically related application IMS databases.
