AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G / 5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.
The Team :
Our Flight Software team is responsible for the C software controlling and communicating with AST satellites in flight, as well as software frameworks for testing and analysis of flight telemetry. We're continually improving our algorithms while maintaining rigorous regression testing to avoid in-flight failures.
The Position :
We are looking for someone who can dedicate 10-20 hours per week, with pay. You will be working with a mix of junior, senior & principal engineers on tasks essential for our operation, with regular tag-up meetings to ensure progress and work through blockers. We pride ourselves on great communication and helping each other out. You will learn and use good version control practices essential for working on codebases shared across the company. This posting is for a fully remote internship, though we also have opportunities for hybrid and / or laboratory work for those interested in interacting with hardware or just working in an office.
Technical Requirements :
- Strong problem-solving skills in a scripting language such as Python or MATLAB
- Familiarity with object-oriented design principles and a willingness to use them
- C experience is preferred, but is not required
- Experience with a version control system (preferably Git) is preferred
- Experience with any of the following is preferred : linear algebra, computational physics, quaternions, Kalman filters
- Ability to understand a task, ask clarifying questions, and drive towards a solution
- Ability to see through tasks to completion, including verifying results, documenting completed work, and cleaning up code
