What will I be doing?
As the Engineering Drafter, you will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining detailed technical drawings and schematics using computer-aided design (CAD) software. These drawings are based on engineers' designs and specifications. You will work closely with engineers, and other professionals to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Create Detailed Drawings: Prepare 2D and 3D technical drawings, schematics, and plans based on initial concepts or engineering specifications.
- Use CAD Software: Operate CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks Vault, etc.) to generate precise engineering diagrams and models.
- Collaborate with Engineers: Work with engineers and other team members to understand project requirements and assist in translating engineering designs into practical, usable plans.
- Ensure Accuracy: Maintain high attention to detail to ensure the drawings are error-free and meet industry standards and specifications.
- Revise and Update Drawings: Make adjustments to existing drawings as necessary based on new design changes or feedback from engineers.
- Maintain Document Control: Organize and maintain drawing files, ensuring version control and proper documentation for future reference. Including drafting style consistency between drawings per company Drafting Standards.
- Prioritize and manage Drafting tasks to support the budgeted hours and scheduled due dates for projects.
- Estimate the number of hours required to accomplish Drafting tasks in support of Project Manager scheduling.
- Assist with ERP data entry tasks as needed.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, drafting techniques, and materials.
- Proficiency in CAD Software: Expertise in CAD tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Vault, etc.) and other related software.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in creating and reviewing designs to ensure accuracy.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve design issues and improve plans.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate with engineers, Project Managers, and other team members to understand project requirements.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
- Associate's degree or equivalent certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in the industry or specific engineering discipline (e.g., mechanical, civil, electrical).
- Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 standards
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, or other CAD software.
- Working Knowledge in MS Office 365 products.
- Strong Mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of fabrication/assembly processes.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and disciplined, with a keen attention to detail.
- Exceptionally high level of commitment to the success of projects and the collective team.
- Character that complements AST’s long-standing culture of high integrity throughout all areas of internal and external business activity
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing to take and successfully pass a drug test.
