Job Description
Astbury is seeking an ambitious individual preferably with prior utility locating experience to serve as a Utility Locate Technician in Northern Indiana. The position will involve driving to multiple locations each day to perform utility locates for water and wastewater utilities primarily in Kosciusko, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Fulton, and surrounding counties. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and trustworthy person looking for an excellent opportunity with a well-established and growing company. This position, which will report to Astbury’s Facility Managers, is ideal for those who are flexible and can handle working independently.
Duties Include:
- Receiving assigned locate tickets and determining daily route to perform the locates
- Reporting locate status and responses in locate ticket management system
- Completing all assigned locate tickets within allotted time frame
- Prioritizing emergency locates as needed throughout the day
- Analyzing blueprints and GIS data to help determine the location of water & wastewater infrastructure
- Communicating GIS or map inaccuracies to management
- Using magnetic, and electrical equipment to locate lines
- Utilizing GPS or surveying equipment to pinpoint coordinates of lines
- Performing calculations to arrive at the depth of lines
- Compiling gathered data and prepared images into professional reports as needed
- Participating in planning or inspection meetings to present findings
General Skills & Experience
Candidates with a background in utility locating, water or wastewater utilities are encouraged to apply. A premium will be placed on individuals with prior utility locating experience, strong oral and written communication, reliability, and work ethic. Also, in emergency situations, employees will sometimes need to be on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.
Education & Certifications
This position requires:

- A valid Drivers’ License
- Commitment to obtain certification
