About The Position
The Manager / Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & Policy is responsible for researching, documenting, and communicating technical accounting policy under US GAAP. This position manages the Company’s global accounting policy manual ensuring it is updated. In addition, this position researches, documents and supports the implementation of the appropriate accounting treatment for business transactions, complex routine and non-routine processes, adoption of new accounting guidance and other highly technical accounting matters (e.g. revenue recognition, reporting unit and segment reporting analysis, goodwill/intangibles impairment analysis, derivative instruments, functional currency, capitalized software costs, purchase accounting, etc.). This is a highly visible role within the Accounting and Finance function interacting with multiple levels of management across all of Astec’s sites to direct and review adherence to US GAAP.
This position will report to the Vice President, External Reporting and Technical Accounting.

Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Perform and document technical research on complex matters and effectively communicate accounting issues to business partners, ensuring that relevant accounting issues are identified, debated, resolved and documented
- Support cross-functional implementation of new accounting standards, serving as the accounting subject matter expert
- Maintain accounting policy repository including staying current on technical accounting developments and advise management on impacts to the Company
- Act as a subject matter expert, working with the business partners in accounting and other functions (e.g., legal, corporate development) to identify financial risks associated with new or contemplated transactions and resolve complex accounting issues
- Perform technical accounting research/documentation on recurring complex analysis (e.g. impairment, segments, etc.)
- Support technical accounting treatment with external auditors
- Maintain global accounting policies and procedures including identification of policy revisions to ensure accurate and consistent application of US GAAP throughout the Company
- Provide periodic technical accounting trainings to the accounting organization and to other business partners as necessary
- Respond to technical accounting inquiries from field operators, finance staff and external auditors. Communicate internal accounting policies and accounting updates to finance organization and external auditors
- Special projects, as required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance; with a minimum of eight years of Accounting / Finance experience is required
- Active CPA license required
- Required 4 years of Public Accounting experience; preferably at a Big 4 Public Accounting firm (mix of public and industry experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and technical accounting issues required
- Experience leading initiatives and projects with cross functional teams in a highly complex, fast-paced environment required
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions to complex or non-standard situations
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience using Oracle Cloud ERP software preferred
- Experience working with a decentralized team of professionals in a matrix organization a plus
- Candidate must be proficient in a Microsoft Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Visio)
- Excellent written, analytical, problem-solving, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills required
- Ability to clearly and concisely document and effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting issues to finance and non-finance personnel
- Strong leadership and relationship-building capabilities, including the ability to lead/influence those not directly reporting to this role
- Ability to effectively work and create effective partnerships with employees at all levels within the organization required
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic business and work environment and manage multiple priorities required
- Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills required
- Highly motivated and self-directed required with the ability to work independently with minimal managerial supervision
- Ability to provide oversight across multiple initiatives or projects from inception to conclusion required
