The Director of Human Resources is an executive level position that reports to the Chief Operations Officer. This position will lead, build, and influence the next generation of HR professionals. They will provide strategic leadership and direction to the organization on all human resources matters. As the leader of the Human Resources Team, they will have oversight of creating, strengthening, and sustaining the programs, processes, and policies that empower and grow the workforce, supporting and advancing the organization, and thereby enabling Astera Health to deliver on its mission. This is a full time, exempt position, scheduled at 80 hours bi-weekly. Astera Health offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life and retirement. The position has the potential to work hybrid, with the knowledge that Astera Health will still require on-site work in Wadena, MN.
Responsibilities include:
- Develops, monitors, and analyzes budget and financial information and utilizes all resources in an effective and economical manner.
- Effectively hire, train, supervise and manage the human resources staff. Provide ongoing coaching and development of employees.
- Manage the effective delivery of all human resource services to all areas within the organization.
- Assist with the strategic planning to ensure the organization is well-positioned for growth and HR needs.
- Formulate, recommend, and update on-going Human Resources policies and procedures for the company. Partner with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws.
- Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
- Monitor all pay practices and systems for effectiveness, consistency, and cost containment.
- Obtain cost effective, employee serving benefits; monitor the benefit environment for options and cost savings. Recommend changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at employee satisfaction and retention.
- Maintain compliance with regulations, employee and labor relations and employment law. Assure compliance with FMLA, ADA, EOE, Joint Commission, OSHA, workers compensation, and other laws relating to human resources management.

Education and experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Organizational Development, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
- Current certification as an HR professional or ability to achieve it within 1 year.
- 10 years’ experience of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources.
- Or: an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.
