Job Description:
The medical courier delivers patient medication, specimens, lab reports and other related medical documents from one place to another. He/she usually drives a vehicle (truck, van or car, depending on the type of item that needs to be transported) and ensures the delivery reaches its destination without problems. Medical couriers need to be very responsible and manage their time well – since they often have to transport medication / specimens / samples which may spoil after a given time. The courier is required to be conscientious of time for delivery.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive medical item and understand instructions from healthcare facility. Ensure that medical item/s are securely stored in the delivery vehicle. Ensure documentation corresponds to each item, and is accurate Map out route to destination, considering traffic and mileage. Ensure punctual collection and delivery of medical items from healthcare facility. Ensure that recipients sign delivery receipts and designations are verified. Ensure the safety of each item delivered. Log mileage and maintenance information on company logbook. Accurately count and take inventory of medical items to be collected or delivered. Perform all duties within HIPAA regulations.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Reports into the Operations Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Subject to background check/ drug screening.
- Must be on-time, prompt, organized, and conscious of time, since patient treatment is depending on these deliveries.
- Must also be flexible when completing various tasks. A trustworthy individual is necessary to fulfill this role.
