Role Description:
The Summer 2025 Intern is responsible for supporting Product Management by completing assigned projects for product strategy, improved efficiencies, and lifecycle management of ASTM products and services. Role will explore new publishing and business technologies to improve the efficiency and outcome quality of ASTM Products.
This shall include researching, advising, and testing GenAI/AI tools to improve how the department executes its responsibilities and can also recommend AI use to deliver better tools to engineering industries. The Intern shall also participate in reviews of product proofs of concepts (POCs) as well as reviewing quality for current products, features and functionalities. As part of the review Intern shall participate in and/or conduct interviews on their own with engineers and other standards users, including ASTM members and other users of standards. During these interviews Intern will explore ASTM POCs and gather product feedback to develop further intelligence that supports ASTM’s innovation and product lifecycle management.
The Intern has the potential to work on any and all existing ASTM revenue product lines. The Intern shall provide guidance to the Product Management team to help further the overall mission of ASTM International, and division/department goals.

General Responsibilities:
- Work with Product Management team to assess and recommend AI/GenAI improvements for how Product Managers conduct their work.
- Review existing GenAI prototype plans and assess POCs as they are worked on.
- Review and recommend GenAI/AI improvements to product lines not currently noted in the current GenAI business plan.
- Review existing POCs, prototypes, and existing products for Quality Assessment.
- Conduct interviews with users of ASTM Intellectual Property/standards and other products, to gather feedback following scripts and seeking value and “whys” behind the pain points and problems expressed during these interviews.
- Apply critical thinking and communication skills when talking to our user community as you walk users through a script or set of questions about a feature or functionality.
- Document and summarize interviews/conversations, and prepare further reporting consolidating other interview feedback expressed to the team.
- Prepare a regular and comprehensive report on progress as requested by supervisor.
- Attend progress and other team meetings and events as requested by supervisor.
- Assist with department annual forecast and budgeting exercises, supporting team with reporting and analytics as well as light research.
- Update roadmaps and other materials.
- Assist with software release notes.
- Perform additional projects upon request

- Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
- Technical coursework preferred (information technology, engineering)
- GenAI/AI knowledge a plus
- Information management knowledge a plus
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office
- Familiarity with AI tools; GenAI trajectories
- Familiarity with Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence)
- Able to master new software quickly
- Strong writing skills
- Good communicator
- Quick learner with an interest in engineering fields (e.g., aerospace and defense, oil & gas, construction, infrastructure, medical device, additive manufacturing, robotics, environmental)

- 35 hours per week, May/June through August.
- Compensation: $18.00/Hour
