The Astor Learning Center (ALC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled School Counselor to join our team, someone who understands that true student success encompasses both academic and emotional growth. The ALC is a therapeutic special education school for children facing educational, emotional, and behavioral challenges serving children in small class sizes with a maximum number of 80 children.

Here's how you will make a meaningful impact:
· Provide Individualized Support: Offer empathetic and confidential counseling to students, addressing their unique emotional, social, and academic needs.
· Facilitate Group Growth: Lead group counseling sessions, creating a supportive environment for students to connect, share, and learn from one another.
· Build Strong Family Partnerships: Collaborate with parents to identify problem areas, assess family functioning, and develop collaborative strategies for success.
· Empower Families for Success: Develop short-term and long-term goals with families, utilizing behaviorally based language and promoting healthy coping mechanisms.
· Connect Families with Resources: Assess family and child needs across various domains (medical, educational, social, legal, housing, etc.) and connect them with appropriate services.
· Champion Confidentiality and Ethical Practice: Protect client rights to privacy and confidentiality, ensuring all documentation is accurate, timely, and adheres to professional standards.
· Be a Collaborative Partner: Communicate effectively with education staff and colleagues, agencies, and families, fostering a collaborative and supportive network.
· Understand and Respect Cultural Diversity: Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural issues in all interactions, ensuring interventions are culturally appropriate and respectful.
We're looking for someone who:
· Holds a Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field and appropriate NYS license.
· Possesses strong clinical skills and experience in individual and group counseling.
· Is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Is empathetic, patient, and possesses a strong ethical compass.
· Has the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
· Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
· Has the ability to lead teams and establish effective working relationships.
