What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position at Astra Behavioral Health?
Under supervision of Program Director and Clinical Director, provides comprehensive psychiatric and nursing services to patients of all ages in the outpatient setting and all Astra programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Performs psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis of adult and pediatric clients with a wide array of acute and /or chronic psychiatric disorders.
2. Utilizes knowledge of psychiatric disorders and their treatment, psychodynamic issues, normal growth and development, family dynamics and counseling skills to plan a comprehensive plan of treatment to suit the client’s needs.
3. When indicated, prescribes and provides ongoing management of psychotropic medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
4. Orders lab work and other diagnostic tests as indicated as part of the diagnostic evaluation or ongoing management of the client.
5. Provides psychiatric consultation to primary care physicians and other providers in the community, providing assistance with diagnosis and ongoing management of clients.
6. Consults with and makes referrals to primary care physicians or other specialists as indicated including therapy services and case management services.
7. Assists with planning and developing behavioral health programs.
8. Provides clients and their families with information about psychiatric disorders, treatment strategies and options, as well as resources available in the community.
9. Completes all documentation through the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
10. Provides individual and group therapy with children and adult clients with a variety of diagnoses.
11. Provides injections of prescribed psychotropic medication.
12. Monitors vital signs, weight, and other health-related behaviors of clients when appropriate.
13. Participates in agency continuing quality improvement activities. Assists with planning and developing behavioral health programs and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialty in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
National Certification by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner.
Possession of an unencumbered license as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Kentucky.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Adheres to Astra Behavioral Health policies and procedures.
2. Attends mandatory in-services and other training/educational programs as required.
