Medical Microbiologist at Biomedical Diagnostics Startup

Job Overview
We are a Boston-area biomedical diagnostics startup company seeking a medical microbiologist to join our team.

Your mission will be to supply the day-to-day hands-on microbiology expertise for a team of hardware engineers, software engineers, and other microbiologists, working together to improve patient outcomes against some of the most common causes of death on the planet.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, microbiology, or a related field
• 2 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory or equivalent BSL2 environment
• Expert at basic microbial identification techniques, including gram staining and biochemical tests
• Expert at routine microbiological procedures such as specimen inoculation, plating, and culture interpretation
• Expert at operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including microscopes, incubators, and automated identification systems
• Attention to detail and expertise at adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Strong record-keeping and written and oral communication skills
• Professionalism, a sense of mission, and a desire to work with others who feel the same in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT)
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) or clinical fellowship (e.g. CPEP) in microbiology or related field
• Experience with advanced microbial identification, e.g. using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (e.g. Bruker) or molecular methods (e.g. bioMérieux’s Biofire)
• Experience creating/writing SOPs and log books
• Familiarity with the Python programming language and its basic libraries
