Astria Health is seeking a Pharmacy Director to join our team at our Astria Toppenish Hospital. This is a Full Time position working Monday - Friday day shift hours.

As the Pharmacy Director you will be responsible for the planning, development, and operation of all activities within the Pharmacy Department. The position is responsible for driving a service-oriented culture focused on superior patient experience, employee engagement, quality, safety, and operational efficiency in Pharmacy operations. Sets and enforces standards for professional practice including leadership development, educational programs and requirements, and workforce goals and targets. The Pharmacy Director manages the overall operations and staffing of the department ensuring compliance with local, state and federal laws, including supervision for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians; also serves as a working pharmacist for the facility.
Director Specific duties
- Leads the efficient operations of Pharmacy Services. Utilizes financial skills in the efficient operation of the department including expense and revenue tracking, and efficient staffing practices.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of all policies and procedures within the department. Responsible for compliance with all applicable standards, state and federal laws.
- Responsible to the medical staff for the coordination of Pharmacy and Therapeutics’ functions of the medical staff. Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of the drug formulary and the development of pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Maintains licenses and records as required by state and federal laws.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of quality and safety improvement activities. Responsible for monthly departmental inspections.
- Responsible for the storage, security, and record keeping of all controlled substances, as per state and federal laws. Maintains and manages all necessary licenses and records pertaining to controlled substances, as required by state and federal laws.
- Responsible for written guidelines for parenteral medications not prepared in pharmacy, pertaining to proper preparation, sterilization and labeling. Annual I.V. admixture certification.
Pharmacist Specific duties
- Monitor medication therapy, intervene, recommend, prescribes medication and laboratory tests according to prescriptive protocols or physician request, and/or educates where necessary.
- Act as a resource for information relating to medications and their actions, administration, adverse effects, contraindications, dosage recommendations, and alternative therapies.
- Process orders and prescriptions via computer order entry and handles/selects medications efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain records according to the policies of the institution, the rules and regulations of the State of Washington, and the rules and regulations of the United States.
- Follow all hospital policies and procedures related to their employment, as well as all pharmacy specific policies and procedures.
- Dispense medications to patients and ensure the safety and efficacy of the medications.
- Manage the logistics and services related to pharmacy, including medication storage and inventory management.
- Oversee, check, and verify work performed by technicians.
- Answer the pharmacy phones, and greet people at the door(s) of the pharmacy and throughout the hospital in a courteous and professional manner.
- Function as a team member and a responsible, dependable employee, including attendance.

- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
- Current Washington State Board of Pharmacy license
- Two to three years leadership experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy strongly preferred.
- Five years Hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Approximately 2 years are required to become proficient in the position, willing to train the right person.
