What You’ll Do
As the Materials & Processes Systems Lead, you will be at the heart of spaceflight innovation, guiding the materials and processes that make our missions possible. Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on materials selection, process control, corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, and safety standards for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments.
- Supporting hardware development and review, risk assessments, anomaly resolution, and flight testing.
- Shaping design and engineering strategies by implementing M&P system requirements.
- Collaborating with teams to verify requirements, qualify vendor processes, and provide manufacturing and inspection support.
- Presenting technical findings and recommendations to program boards and leadership.
- Ensuring that all materials and processes meet NASA’s rigorous standards for human spaceflight.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Systems).
- 7 years of experience in Materials & Processes, preferably within space or aerospace sectors.
- Expertise in both metallic and non-metallic materials, space-grade process specs, corrosion prevention, failure analysis, and contamination control.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess technical risk and recommend actionable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- The ability to thrive both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering.
- 10 years of experience in spacecraft M&P engineering.
- Proven leadership in directing technical teams.
- Previous experience with NASA programs or human spaceflight systems.
- Familiarity with flammability, oxygen compatibility, thermal systems, and electrical component materials.
