What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Facility Supervisor position at Astrix?
We are seeking an Animal Facilities Lab Supervisor to join a reputable non profit research organization! This role acts as the primary liaison between various support teams to oversee facility projects, repairs, and improvements. They will coordinate internal facilities and external contractors to help expand the research program!

- Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR)
- Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) – AALAS
- High School Diploma / GED (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
- 1 year in a managerial role overseeing controlled/regulated facility operations, equipment maintenance, and staff
- 3 years in an AAALAC-accredited lab animal facility (Preferred)
- Experience with regulatory processes and audits (Preferred)
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for research animal care
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to handle confidential information
Facility & Equipment Management:
- Manage work orders and coordinate with Facilities and BSO departments
- Oversee maintenance of facility equipment (floor scrubbers, IVC racks, Hydropak, etc.)
- Maintain quality control for autoclaves, temp tapes, BIs, and chlorine flushing stations
- Collaborate with vendors to manage and troubleshoot the Edstrom Watchdog System
- Adjust lighting controls based on researcher requests
- Oversee pest control efforts and ensure potable water for animals
- Assess facility and equipment needs, coordinating necessary services and maintenance
- Oversee equipment and facility maintenance programs
- Manage equipment and cage inventory, coordinating redeployment as needed
- Compile reports and updates for quarterly meetings and leadership updates
- Participate in facility infrastructure committees as required
- Review and refine policies to maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance
- Support investigators and staff in understanding procedural policies
- Assist in internal/external audits, site visits, and inspections
- Provide training on policies, SOPs, and operational procedures
- Guide investigators in protocol preparation and execution
- Assess and recommend space allocation strategies
- Implement space allocation decisions with the Assistant Director of Husbandry and Operations
- Develop and maintain SOPs relevant to technical operations
- Hire, train, and manage the Logistical Support Technician
- Perform other duties as assigned
