What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Handler, 2nd Shift position at Astro Chemicals, Inc.?
Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of Plant/Traffic Manager and/or Department Supervisor, assist in the daily operations of loading and unloading chemical products, material handling and storage of chemical and chemical related products.
Essential Functions:
* Conduct loading and unloading of chemical products from trucks and/or trailers
* Utilize proper storage procedures of chemical products in designated areas, bays, and/or racks utilizing specialized material handling equipment and defined storage methods
* Unload empty returnable containers from trucks and trailers, sort containers to be
reloaded on appropriate trailers for re-use or reconditioning
* Retest and recertify totes/IBC’s in accordance with defined standards
* Advise management of any questionable container condition, leakage, labeling, proper
packaging, and/or other applicable information
* Assist in drumming of chemicals in compliance with standard operating procedures
* Prepare chemical blends per defined instructions
* Prepare empty containers for chemical filling
* Repack leaking drums/containers
* Prepare pallets for storage and/or transportation of product
* Selection, preparation and staging of customer orders per customer requirements, such as lot control numbers, additional stenciling or labeling requirements, packing and handling requirements, sample delivery requirements, and/or QC requirements
* Periodically inspect flammable storage area for proper product storage, leaking drums, leaning piles, no shrink wrap; correct and/or alert Supervisor to any potential hazards
Minor Functions:
* Perform all associated daily tasks within the parameters of written work instructions adhering to all Safety instructions/regulations
* Assist in loading of customer pick-ups, as required
* Assist with year-end physical inventory, as required
* Data entry functions and/or label printing, as required
* Assist with general cleaning of product containers per defined instructions
* Convey any pertinent work instructions to on-coming shift personnel
* Assist with daily facility cleaning (utilize floor sweeper/washer)
* Maintain clean work area; keep free from debris
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent
* Knowledge of DOT Hazardous Material regulations relating to compatibility of chemicals in storage and shipping, preferred
* Familiarity with DOT placard and labeling information, preferred
* Knowledgeable in HazMat Emergency Training techniques
* Knowledgeable in OSHA and general Safety regulations/instructions/procedures
* Experience with reading and interpreting Bills of Lading/Manifest, MSDS sheets,
and/or Manufacturers Certification of Analysis, preferred
* Experience in utilizing various material handling equipment
* Computer literate (Beginner level, as a minimum)
* Chemical, warehouse and/or distribution background, preferred
* Experience using Standard Operating Procedures and/or various defined
written procedures with emphasis on ISO and Continuous Process Improvement methods
