Job Description:
As a Mechanical Engineer at AstroForge, you'll own complex hardware from design concepts on Earth to mining on target asteroids, and then back again. Your role will involve working with the team to design and develop our missions, taking ownership for your part of the spacecraft.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate complete ownership of product outcomes at every stage of development and production
- Shepherd hardware from conceptual design, assembly, and test through high volume production and on-orbit operation
- Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization
- Rapidly iterate on designs and analysis to steer overall product direction
- Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware to validate analysis and demonstrate compliance to design criteria
- Own product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly, and launch
General Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- Experience with CAD and FEA software packages
- 2 years of professional experience with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing
- Proficient in 3D CAD and FEA software packages
- Solid understanding and application of GD&T
- Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
- Knowledge of and experience in selecting materials, manufacturing methods, and surface treatments for mechanical components
- Experience with design of experiments, statistical process control, and process qualification
- Specific expertise applicable to any of the above sub-teams
- Ability to work onsite in Seal Beach, CA.
Preferred Requirements
- Prior ownership of a complex component or assembly from initial design through production ramp
- Experience with full life cycle of spacecraft
- NX, AutoCAD and/or Thermal Desktop experience preferred
- Comfortable with coupled loads, modal, and FEA analysis
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages
- Experience working with PCB designers and exposure to PCB layout and PCBA mechanical design
- Hands-on manufacturing and DIY build experience

Salary
- Level I: $80,000 - $100,000
- Level II: $100,000 - $120,000
- Level III: $120,000 - $150,000
- Level IV: $150,000 - $200,000
