Astrolab is looking for a team member who will support both the development of lunar rovers and development of our production processes and facility. You will collaborate with other Astrolab engineers to advance product design in tandem with advancing our means to build and test. You will be ultimately responsible for ensuring the timely procurement, build, and test of harness assemblies and responsible for successful integration to flight vehicles.
What you'll do:
- Design, define, and develop fabrication, assembly, integration, test processes for power, communications, and RF harnessing
- Develop and institutionalize fabrication and assembly standards. Take ownership of the Astrolab Harness Assembly standard
- Develop integration standards and ensure next level assemblies are set up for successful harness integration
- Drive design for excellence (DFx) throughout all stages of the product life cycle
- Support Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control program and floor implementation
- Champion implementation of technology, processes, and methodologies to accelerate hardware development, build, test, and operation
- Triage and determine solutions for non-conformances
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Hands-on work. Fabrication, assembly, test, and integration
- Design and own assembly and fabrication tooling from concept through implementation
- Develop work instructions and documentation for build and test processes
- Outline detailed project plans and drive cross functional execution
- Perform trade studies on capital equipment and tool procurement.
- Act as the Astrolab SME working with supplier development team to build out and strengthen outsource harness build and test capabilities
- Design of the rover and other lunar hardware
- Collaborate with the cross functional team to develop the product, processes, facility, and supply chain simultaneously championing concurrent engineering
- Support on-site and off-site vehicle testing
- Quality systems, data, and records management
- Development of internal design, construction, and verification specifications.
- Configuration management
- Procurement and production planning
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field; master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus- 5 years' of experience working as a production engineering, responsible engineer, or manufacturing engineering for cable harness assemblies for aerospace flight hardware. Preferred experience with spaceflight hardware; strongly preferred experience with NASA projects
- Demonstrated mastery of project management and associated tools
- Demonstrated understanding of spacecraft harness construction and harness integration
- Demonstrated understanding of EEE piece part management
- Deep understanding of industry and NASA avionics standards
- Expert in root cause problem solving across the product life cycle
- Experience with Lean and Six Sigma principals
- Proficiency with Harness Design and CAD modeling software (e.g., NX & Zuken E3)
- Understanding of instrumentation and sensors including power supplies, oscilloscopes, accelerometers, thermocouples, RTDs, etc.
- Experience with safety regulations and establishing best practices
- High proficiency with JIRA, MES/MRP software, and Excel
- Working understanding of ERP/MRP systems
- Preference to candidates with a working understanding of SMC-S-016 and 017 standard
- Preference to candidates with experience working to tailored versions of NASA Std-8739.4
- Must be able and willing to periodically travel (i.e. field testing events)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
