Title: Senior Manager FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Partner
I. Purpose of Position
Although the duties of a Senior Manager generally are the same as those of Managers, they are assigned to larger or more complicated engagements and often supervise the work of Managers. Senior managers generally have more firm wide responsibilities and/or have several years of experience.
II. Duties & Responsibilities
Perform audit or accounting procedures with appropriate working papers. Requires travel to clients sites (35-40%) including overnight stays. Become experts in their assigned areas.
Establish and maintain client relationships; includes periodic assistance with routine accounting issues.
Develop new client contacts and relationships beneficial to the firm.
Recognize opportunities to provide services to existing clients.
Develop and direct the performance of the engagement plan.
Instruct and supervise both Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants assigned to engagement and evaluate the adequacy of their work.
Ensure working papers are complete and accurate, review financial statements in detail, and review and obtain approval on reports. Review tax planning and returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations.
Prepare financial forecasts and assist consulting division on various projects.
Maintain accurate records of time and expenses to ensure proper client billing.
Ensure proper performance of fieldwork and report progress to Partner responsible for the engagement.
Ensure engagement is properly planned, performed, supervised, reviewed, documented, and result communicated. Provide ongoing training and development of new and existing staff.
Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by staff.
Respond to staff concerns, comments, and information as appropriate.
Comply with relevant Continuing Professional Education requirements of the AICPA, State Board of
Accountancy, Governmental Accounting Standards, and the Firm.
Maintain awareness and understanding of developments in accounting field and in client industries.
Prepare and present materials for in-house training and client seminars.
Attend seminars, trade shows, or client relations functions.
Perform special projects or other duties as assigned by the Firm’s Partners.
III. Knowledge & Experience
Individuals at this level are required to be CPAs and have had a minimum of 3 years experience as a
Senior Accountant and have exhibited technical proficiency.
Experience in supervising staff, providing objective feedback, identifying development opportunities,and resolving personnel issues.
Experience in identifying client needs and in developing and maintaining client relationships.
Mastery of principles of accounting.
Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat products.
IV. Skills, Abilities, Qualifications or Expectations
Ability to organize, guide, and direct work of other staff in order to complete projects within deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Accurately work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, percentages, fractions, and ratios.
Capable of objective feedback, supervision, and conflict resolution.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of Firm, employee, and client information.
**This position may be required to work weekends depending on workflow and busy seasons.
