Responsibilities
*This position is open to multiple U.S. locations. Preferably near a U.S. HW Kaufman office location.*
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Property Underwriting Manager specializing in Excess & Surplus Lines (E&S) business to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting Excess & Surplus (E&S) Commercial Property business written on a nation-wide basis via nationwide wholesalers.
- Underwrite small commercial and middle-market E&S property accounts on a brokerage basis; Manage referral property accounts via nationwide binding authority program
- Work closely with CUO to develop and implement underwriting strategies for E&S property business, ensuring alignment with company objectives and profitability goals
- Monitor and manage the performance of the E&S property portfolio, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to optimize profitability
- Develop, monitor and update property underwriting guidelines and rates
- Build and nurture relationships with wholesale brokers and internal teams to drive business growth and retention
- Mentor and train Assistant Underwriters
- Set CAT aggregate strategy and manage aggregate reporting process
- Assist in management of facultative and treaty reinsurance
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and delivering timely underwriting decisions
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in related work experience
- Minimum 7 years of commercial property Excess and Surplus Lines underwriting experience at an E&S carrier
- Deep understanding of commercial property insurance products, underwriting principles, and risk assessment methodologies
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-starter with a demonstrated history of proactive performance
- Ability to travel
