What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barge Deckhand Loader position at Atalco Gramercy Operations?
This job is primarily responsible for working at Atalco loading barges. This is a general position which will perform a wide variety of duties based on the daily needs of the operation.
Essential functions include the following:
- Drafting barges
- Securing barges with ropes/winch cables
- Opening and closing hatch covers
- Washing loaded barges of product dusting
- Replacing winch cables as needed
- Greasing winches/cables
- Care of water pumps on dock
- General preventative maintenance of winches and cables
- General housekeeping duties on dock
- Assisting with replacing dust bags in baghouses
- Assisting with greasing/oiling bearings and gearboxes
- General housekeeping as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED will be required for any position at Atalco.
One year of relevant training and/or work experience is preferred.
Physical demands of this position include the ability to:
- Lift/push/pull 45 pounds or more
- Climb, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat frequently
- Stand and walk constantly/continuously
- Balance constantly/continuously
- Kneel occasionally
- Safely walk on barge surfaces with the ability to work around deep water
- Understand and communicate verbally, both in person and via two-way radio
- Understand and communicate written instructions
- Work outside in extreme weather conditions
- Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights
- Work in an environment with high dust levels
- Meet requirements of PFT and fit testing when applicable
- Meet requirements of and utilize PPE at all times
- Distinguish, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality odors, or recognizing odors, using nose
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed
