Position Summary

3rd shift (11pm-7:30am) Supports the Tooling operation by providing technical skills in Mold Making process with emphasis on wire and sinker EDM process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Obtains from job order or verbal instructions such information as qty, drawing spec, fit
• Keeps machines running attended and unattended at maximum efficiency, plans for a target of 24/7
• Willing to train others to increase throughput and run efficiently
• Positions and secures work piece on machine table or places it in fixtures
• Utilizes fixturing to maximize full capabilities of the software and machines  
• Moves controls to align wire and work piece and to set wire feed rate, and electric current
• Starts machine, adjusts settings as required, and observes operation
• Inspects work visually and with measuring instruments
• Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities
• Follows planning and schedule delegated by supervisor
• Keeps work area clean and maintained
• Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts
• Examines blueprint of part and plans set up.
• Positions and secures work piece on machine table with clamps, vise or fixture
• Positions and secures electrodes in holder, verifying concentricity, alignment, and depth using measuring instruments such as calipers and dial indicators
• Mounts electrodes and holder on machine spindle.  Verify alignment of electrode and work piece
• Computes setting from specifications and knowledge of machine capacities
• Starts machine and observes beginning of operation
• Adjust machine settings to obtain optimal burn performance
• Inspects completed work piece accurately with the ability to identify imperfections and utilize measuring instruments to verify critical dimensions.
• Records verified dimensional checks and submits to tool engineer or other designee
• Mentors and trains journey personnel, apprentices, and students

Qualifications

Required Competencies, Skills, and Experience

• Prior Mold Making or Wire EDM experience required
• Must be proficient in the use of measuring tools
• Ability to work with deadlines delegated by supervisor
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have proven knowledge Mold Making process
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and tool drawings
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years Sinker EDM experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team.

Education and Job Experience Requirements 

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Successful completion of trade school Wire specific course and/or apprenticeship

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Normal manufacturing environment
• Standing for long periods of time
• Moderate continuous lifting, pushing, pulling
• Reaching overhead
• Shop environment
• Subject to high noise levels from operating machines
• Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
• Breathing fumes, dust, and mist
• Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid
