Purpose
The Director of Civil Engineering, Residential Development has the primary responsibility for providing inspired technical and managerial leadership and expertise to both internal Teams and Clients. This position will primarily provide leadership and operational management of the Residential Sector to include initiating and implementing operational policies and procedures, developing innovative technical and production practices, personnel and budget management, collaboration with other Directors, and overall performance and growth of the Sector and Department. Promoting, implementing, and executing business / client development processes is required. Responsibilities include coordination, communication, and enforcement of Company and Department processes, procedures, and standards and the promotion of Company culture and core values.
The majority of the Residential Team is located in the Raleigh / Cary area and to help with interaction, candidates need to be in the Raleigh / Cary area or willing to relocate to the Raleigh / Cary area.
Duties and responsibilities
Company, Department, Practice Leadership
- Responsible and accountable for the systematic and consistent operations, management, supervision, administration, planning, budgeting, operational and financial performance of the Sector
- Creation and execution of Strategic and Business Plans in conjunction with our overall Department and Company Plans with collaboration with DH / CGO / CSMO and other Directors as needed.
- Plans and administers the annual net revenue, profitability, and personnel budgets for the Sector.
- Responsible and accountable for creation, coordination, consistency, and enforcement of all technical aspects and policies of the Department and Company
- Collaborate, identify, create, and implement improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions for design, construction, deliverables, and processes
- Lead quality control / quality assurance development and implementation consistent with Company and Department standards and the requirements of our clients and regulatory agencies
- Lead, advocate, and implement current and innovative industry technologies and philosophies
Project, Client, and Team Management
Serve as a leader for communication, collaboration, and team building within the Sector and DepartmentPromotion of the Sector from a Department perspective internally and externallyCollaborate with DH, CGO, and Client Success Managers to ensure project success and promote pursuits.Responsible for quality management procedures for designs, construction plans, bid documents, technical specifications, construction cost estimates, and other deliverablesProvide direction to and mentorship for managers to resolve scope, design, and other challenges ensuring adherence to standards, QA / QC processes, and other policies related to project execution and managementMonitor and report the financial performance of critical / Sector projects and proactively work with managers to address project issues, create solutions, and assist any settlements with CGO / COOImplement and monitor Project Management procedures including invoicing and collections for Team and lead procedure initiativesNo direct project management will be requiredPersonnel and Team Leadership
Lead, supervise, and mentor managers in the Sector to achieve the goals and strategies for the Sector / DepartmentProvide leadership and opportunities in the development and growth of staff with a focus on strength-based managementFocus on right people in the right seats and collaborate on thoughtful guidance of personnelLead, develop, and participate in Department and Company recruitment efforts and building Teams within SectorClient and Business Development
Help develop, implement, and monitor Business Development Plan for Sector with DH, CGO, and Business Development LeadUnderstand, monitor, and engage in industry and professional organizations and funding mechanisms that affect the practice. Promote participation within the SectorParticipate and promote existing strategic client development and associated relationship processes (e.g. CRM) for the Sector, Department and Company including client feedbackLead the development of marketing collateral for the DepartmentAssist in strategic pursuit of potential clients per Sector and Department including assisting in organizing and participation in conferences / networking eventsRequirements
Required qualifications include :
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent degree and / or experienceSelf-motivated, engaged, team-oriented, communicative, and strategic thinker with strong leadership and management skillsProven track record of mentoring and coachingEnergetic, flexible, confident, and forward thinking12 years of engineering or related experience; 7 years of project management; 5 years of managing diverse teams, 5 years of Residential experiencePeople skills, leadership, mentorship, soft skills, multi-tasking, financial acumen are all very important to this positionPreferred qualifications include :
Licensed Professional EngineerProven track record of developing existing and new client relationshipsTechnical certifications and / or professional licensure relevant to Sector(s)Understanding of financial metrics and associated monitoringThought leader in the SectorThought leader in building teams and collaboration
