The Director of Applications Engineering is responsible for leading the quoting and concept development processes for automation solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies, customer requirements, and business strategies to drive successful project acquisition. The Director will lead a team of Applications Engineers and collaborate with Sales and D&B teams to develop innovative, cost-effective automation solutions that align with customer needs and company objectives.
How you will make a Difference:
- Oversee and direct the quoting and concept development processes for automation projects.
- Engage with your team and the customer on concept generation and proposal presentation.
- Lead and mentor the Applications Engineering team to ensure high-quality technical solutions and cost estimations.
- Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to develop tailored automation solutions aligned with customer requirements.
- Prepare and present technical proposals, including automation concepts, layouts, and cost estimates.
- Ensure accuracy and competitiveness of quotations while maintaining profitability and feasibility.
- Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.
- Develop and implement best practices, tools, and processes for efficient quoting and concept development.
- Coordinate with D&B teams for seamless project handoff.
- Manage team resources and workload to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify potential risks in proposals and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of the Applications Engineering function.
- Participate in strategic planning to align the Applications Engineering team with company objectives
You Have:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 8 years of experience in automation, applications engineering, or a related field. 3 years in a leadership role (managing 5 or more professionals), preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of automation systems, robotics, motion control, and industrial machinery.
- Proven experience in developing automation concepts and cost estimates for custom automation solutions.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop talent.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with customers and internal teams.
- Experience working with sales teams and customers to define project requirements and expectations.
- Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools, and automation system design principles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel is required
