Director of Applications Engineering

The Director of Applications Engineering is responsible for leading the quoting and concept development processes for automation solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies, customer requirements, and business strategies to drive successful project acquisition. The Director will lead a team of Applications Engineers and collaborate with Sales and D&B teams to develop innovative, cost-effective automation solutions that align with customer needs and company objectives.

How you will make a Difference:

• Oversee and direct the quoting and concept development processes for automation projects.
• Engage with your team and the customer on concept generation and proposal presentation.
• Lead and mentor the Applications Engineering team to ensure high-quality technical solutions and cost estimations.
• Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to develop tailored automation solutions aligned with customer requirements.
• Prepare and present technical proposals, including automation concepts, layouts, and cost estimates.
• Ensure accuracy and competitiveness of quotations while maintaining profitability and feasibility.
• Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.
• Develop and implement best practices, tools, and processes for efficient quoting and concept development.
• Coordinate with D&B teams for seamless project handoff.
• Manage team resources and workload to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
• Identify potential risks in proposals and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of the Applications Engineering function.
• Participate in strategic planning to align the Applications Engineering team with company objectives

You Have:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 8 years of experience in automation, applications engineering, or a related field. 3 years in a leadership role (managing 5 or more professionals), preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of automation systems, robotics, motion control, and industrial machinery.
• Proven experience in developing automation concepts and cost estimates for custom automation solutions.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop talent.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with customers and internal teams.
• Experience working with sales teams and customers to define project requirements and expectations.
• Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools, and automation system design principles.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel is required
