What are the responsibilities and job description for the Simulation Engineer position at ATC Automation?
A Simulation Engineer transforms the 3D mechanical design for a piece of automated equipment into a physical model. They will define the kinematic and dynamic properties of the model creating a digital twin for Virtual Commissioning. They will write programs in multiple languages and environments to create realistic behavior in a digital environment. Finally, the simulation engineer creates connections between the model and various industrial controllers to support testing PLC, HMI, and Robot programs.
This is a middle to entry-level position working under the supervision of the Controls Development Coordinator focusing on the connection between the model and various industrial controllers. There will be opportunities to expand the role into other parts of the process based on company needs and employee interests.
How You Will Make a Difference:
- Work closely with Controls Designers to define PLC tags for the application.
- Assign PLC I/O tags in the model and establish a connection to the external controller(s).
- Support ATC Controls Designers during the Virtual Commissioning process.
- Explain model behavior.
- Add requested features or functions to the model.
- Correct errors in the model.
- Write scripts to emulate 3rd party controller interfaces e.g., vision systems and RFID readers.
- Develop automation for routine tasks involving tag creation and binding.
- Create scripts in the emulation environment to test model behavior.
- Work within the ATC simulation team to advance the state of the art.
- Implementing VR & AR outputs for visualization.
