This facility operates 24/7. Candidate may be required to work 16 hr shift as needed
WORK ENVIORNMENT: The North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a maximum security, all male forensic mental health facility located in Gainesville, Florida. It has a current capacity of 193 residents.
TYPE OF PATIENTS: The average age of our residents is early 30's. The goal is to get those committed as Incompetent to Proceed to Trial (—78%) back to their committing courts for disposition of their charges, and those committed as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (—22%) to a less restrictive environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.- Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- One year of acute care or two years of clinical nursing experience.
- Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training.
- Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs., remain alert while on duty, and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.
CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess resident complaints and determine action, notifying supervisor when necessary.- Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
- Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy, and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
- Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor, or further assessment and treatment.
- Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
- Coordinate residents’ appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as need for resident movement to and from the unit.
- Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
- Complete incident reports factually and objectively, within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
- Complete progress notes on resident care within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
- Responsive and compliant with current resident rights and advocacy issues, adheres to and complies with facility policy.
- Maintain appropriate and professional behavior during interactions with residents’, supervisors, and other staff members.
- Display professionalism throughout employment including, but not limited to, arriving to work on time, maintaining an accurate timesheet, and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.
