DESCRIPTION OF ROLE :
The DHS Database Administrator’s primary responsibility will be to work with application developers
to integrate databases with applications. They will collaborate with developers and project team
members, analyze requirements, model data structures, and create efficient database schemas.
The DBA will be responsible for :
Managing SQL database backups and recovery procedures.
Acting as a liaison with the Division of Enterprise Technology (DET) for server patching
validation, software upgrades, user access controls, and creation of new servers or databases in
the Enterprise SQL or Oracle environment.
Ensuring that changes follow DHS will change management policies.
Maintaining database structures in accordance with DHS security policies, compliance
regulations, and business requirements.
This role requires interaction with cross-functional teams, including :
State Departments with varying levels of database and application development knowledge.
Technical Administrators.
Business professionals from program areas, infrastructure, application development, or third-
party vendors.
Candidates should be proficient in :
SQL Database services and management tools, including SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS),
Visual Studio 2022, Red Gate Comparison, Report Builder, Oracle SQL Developer, and SQL Plus.
Government security and data encryption regulations, including MARS-E 2.2, HIPAA, and PII
compliance.
A strong candidate will also have knowledge and experience with Oracle database tools such as :
OEM, SQL Plus, and SQL Developer.
Informatica Source and Target Management (preferred).
The position requires a degree of creativity with some latitude to develop solutions as needed.
