Telecom OSP (Outside Plant) Fielder

Job Brief

We are now searching for an Outside Plant (OSP) Fielder to support engineering services through the detailed collection of information from the job site. In the Auburn/Puyallup area.

The OSP (Outside Plant) Fielder supports engineering services through the detailed collection of information from the job site. This position requires a working knowledge of utility construction practices. Telecom knowledge is desired. The successful candidate is responsible for identifying existing field design and layout of OSP telecommunications network. This would include aerial, buried and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work in fiber build area and identify homes, businesses, and multiple dwelling units that require fiber extension
• Acquiring field data to be used for designing network routes
• Identify optimum path for extending communication cables
• Provide detailed field notes to allow construction work prints to be generated in CAD
• Capable of managing workload and prioritizing multiple field engineering assignments
• Negotiate and execute building access agreements
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to learn new technical systems and tools
• Safety- above the bottom line. Cutting corners is never an option

Qualifications/Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design) desired
• Ability to read and understand as-built prints, identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for projects
• Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
• Familiar with IKE and or Katapult desired.
• Ability to resolve problems following standard practices, using judgment within defined policies and guidelines
• Familiar with City, County, State, and Railroad permit application process, desired
• Ability to work outdoors 90% of the time
• Valid driver’s license, safe driving record
• Requires use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
• Safety sensitive position – Background Check and Pre-employment drug screen completed, post offer

Physical Requirements:

• Requires walking 2-4 miles per day
• Works outside extensively and may be exposed to all types of weather, such as heat, cold, sun, rain, and other weather conditions
• May carry equipment such as GPS unit, measuring stick, measuring wheel, and other handheld devices weighing 5-20lbs
• May be required to read engineering designs which use color coding to denote telecom routes
