What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Human Resources position at ATCO Non-Utility?
Ashcor Technologies Ltd. is a subsidiary of ATCO and the largest independent marketer of fly ash in Western Canada. Ashcor is adding to its dynamic team as it expands its reclaimed ash management business in Canada and the United States. We are committed to excellence in all aspects of our operations. Reporting to the President, Ashcor, the Manager, Human Resources will play an instrumental role in assisting Ashcor launch its business operations in the United States. This position will act as a key resource for a wide range of Human Resource Management matters, including recruitment, employee relations, training, compensation, performance management and benefits programs.
The position will be a remote position. The incumbent will, in the future, be expected to travel between 20-30% of the time to various sites in the USA and potentially Canada.
What Else You Get To Do:
- Develop and implement HR plans and strategies aligned with business plans to meet the needs of the business group.
- Develop a strategic recruitment framework reflective of Ashcor USA Inc’s current and future talent needs - develop strategies to attract key roles, assist with identification of key talent requirements and filling talent gaps and manage the full-cycle recruitment process
- Function as the primary HR contact for employees and leaders within specified business groups, providing guidance on HR programs, policy and practices, and various employee relations scenarios
- Ensure compensation decisions are aligned with business needs and requirements and follow the company’s compensation philosophy
- Plan and implement HR programs, policies and processes within the business, ensuring delivery is focused on meeting business needs while maintaining consistency with overall corporate approach
- Support and identify training needs, facilitate workshops, information sessions and professional development
- Provide input into Ashcor USA Inc. HR policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines
- Provide expert level advice to leaders on all aspects of HR, including disability management, Workers Comp claims, labor relations, workplace investigations and relations, performance development and performance management
- Provide support during crisis situations to ensure business continuity
- Coach leaders and employees on resolving employee relations issues, motivating teams, and providing clear performance expectations
- Partner with Ashcor USA Inc’s PEO payroll and benefits provider to deliver seamless employee onboarding & offboarding practices, spanning all aspects of policy, payroll, benefits orientation and vacation administration
- Support change management initiatives by applying change management methodology to programs and initiatives impacting employees
- Coach and influence the leadership team to bring best solutions. Provide constructive and, at times, difficult feedback for employees and leaders
- Act as a strategic partner to the business in all aspects of talent identification, organizational structure, talent & succession plans and workforce planning
Who You Are:
- College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (Human Resources Management, Commerce, Business, Psychology)
- CHRP or SHRM designation or working towards is preferred
- 7 years in progressively challenging Human Resources roles with exposure to and demonstrated competence in all functional (generalist) areas of HR, including benefits, compensation, workplace investigations, organizational planning, talent management, employee relations, training & development, change management and HRIS
- Progressive leadership experience in HR at a corporate level
- Strong knowledge of HR practices and programs and employment law
- Ability to engage and have difficult conversations and influence outcomes while maintaining strong, trusting relationships
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical abilities coupled with a good sense of judgement
- Extreme diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with situations of a sensitive nature
