Job Description:
As a Principal Engineer on the ATG Solutions Hardware team within Apothym Technologies Group, you are a member of a talented team of engineers who are passionate about developing sophisticated and innovative state-of-the-art antenna systems and satellite terminals to meet a variety of communication needs for US DoD and commercial customers over broad portions of the RF microwave spectrum.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with a cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, RF, software, and systems engineers with the goal of designing, building, integrating, testing, and demonstrating next generation antennas for satellite and terrestrial communications systems.
- Responsible for the hands-on design and realization of RF circuits, passive RF components, antennas, and antenna systems.
- A candidate with a broad electrical engineering background may also be responsible for the hands-on design and realization of the analog and digital circuitry needed to power and control the RF circuits and subsystems of their designs.
- Use RF Computer Aided Design software such has Microwave Office and ADS to design and simulate microwave circuits, filters, and other passive and active circuits.
- Use computational electromagnetic analysis software, such as Ansys HFSS, to design and predict performance on various types of antennas and apertures (spiral, sinuous, Vivaldi, patch, slot, horn, etc.)
- Implement various design techniques (materials, shaping, etc.) for RCS mitigation where necessary.
- Implement beamforming and null steering algorithms for antennas in hardware and software.
- Use analog and digital circuit simulation tools, such as Spice and PSpice.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technicians, both internal and external to the company, to realize RF circuit and antenna system designs.
- Participate and guide the testing of RF hardware for required performance metrics: S-Parameters, VSWR, insertion loss, gain, polarization, radar cross section (RCS), etc.
- Investigate new technologies and applications for microwave circuits, radiating apertures and antennas.
- Perform project leadership duties as necessary.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians in the RF design, manufacturing, and test phases of antennas and RF transceiver-related projects and programs.
- Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems involving antenna/sensor-based applications such as electronic warfare, electronic attack, electronic support measures, communications, geolocation, direction finding, etc.
- Interface well with other people at all levels, including customers and suppliers.
