Job Title: Delegating Nurse/Case Manager
Department: Support Services
Position Overview: As required by the Maryland State Board of Nursing and the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) of the State of Maryland, all delegation, supervision, training and review of medication administration practices and health assessment of agency consumers must be performed by a licensed registered nurse. In order to meet these requirements, as well as provide other identified health care needs for Athelas Institute, Inc., the following will be necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
- Delegate medication administration practices and other nursing tasks to qualified Athelas Institute, Inc. Certified Medical Technicians, CMT.
- Interact with appropriate physicians and pharmacy staff in providing current and correct prescriptions for Athelas Institute, Inc. consumers.
- Review all medication administration and health care records per DDA requirements.
- Supervise and provide ongoing evaluation of medication administration competency of Athelas Institute, Inc. employees.
- Assist with health related in servicing and orientation of Athelas Institute, Inc. employees.
- Conduct routine health assessments of clients receiving delegated nursing services as indicated by the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Maryland.
- Assist Athelas Institute, Inc. employees in providing comprehensive case management of Athelas Institute, Inc. consumers.
- Maintain appropriate nursing files on Athelas Institute, Inc. people supported and employees.
- Visit and assess hospitalized consumers assuring that all needed services can be provided upon discharge from the inpatient facility prior to consumer’s return to ALU/group home and/or day program.
- Provide vaccinations to staff and consumers as ordered by physician and in compliance with OSHA guidelines.
- Attend necessary Athelas Institute, Inc. meetings and in-services as availability allows.
- Provide availability for nursing consultation to Athelas Institute, Inc. employees either by telephone (following screening by Program Manager/Coordinator).
- Provide an accounting of services rendered as requested by Athelas Institute, Inc.
- Maintain a log of all calls/home for Athelas Institute, Inc. to review on a monthly basis.
- Develop and revise protocols as necessary.
- Supervisor duties as assigned by Director
- Position may require some evening and weekend work
- Department oversight in the form of MITC approvals and management, department meeting facilitation, departmental informational communication.
- Complete all state and agency required documentation in accordance with stated guidelines and deadlines.
- Check and respond to emails daily to maintain proper communication.
- Complete and maintain required trainings in accordance with DDA/State/Company regulations. This includes, and is not limited to, CPR/First-Aid, the Mandt System, certified medication technician course and regular recertifications.
- Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings.
- Staff will be required to utilize agency electronic systems for communication, time and attendance, progress notes, incident report filing, etc.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Director or designee.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but will consider Associates Degree
Training and Experience:
- Must have current Maryland Registered Nursing licensure. (DDA preferred but not required)
- Preferred (1) year experience with adults with intellectual disabilities in community setting.
NURSE’S ABILITY TO PRACTICE:
It will be the responsibility of the nurse to maintain current Registered Nursing licensure in the State of Maryland, current Medication Administration Training approval from DDA, as well as any continuing education requirements to maintain clinical expertise. It will be the responsibility of the nurse to carry nursing malpractice insurance.
Physical Requirements:
- Applicant must be able to walk, stand, and sit for up to 8 hours. Person must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more based on assigned supported person (using health and safety lifting / turning techniques or assistive devices).
- Applicant must be able to successfully demonstrate all Mandt Systems training physical interventions and techniques, to include assisting supported person to standing, providing assistance with ambulation, physical releases, and physical restraints.
Work Environment
- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
