Reports To: Human Resources Manager
Athena Specialty Group is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HR Generalist to support our growing team. This role will be primarily focused on multi-state payroll administration and recruiting support, while also contributing to the full scope of HR operations — including onboarding, compliance, employee records, PTO tracking, and benefits administration.
You’ll work closely with the HR Manager to ensure consistency, accuracy, and a positive employee experience across key people processes. The ideal candidate is organized, communicative, and eager to contribute to an efficient HR operation while making a meaningful impact across multiple areas of the employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Payroll Administration
- Process multi-state payroll for W-2 and 1099 employees
- Support reimbursement processing (mileage, stipends, etc.)
- Ensure payroll accuracy, timely submission, and compliance
- Maintain accurate employee records
- Assist with audits, employment verifications, and compliance documentation and garnishments
- Track PTO, leave of absence (FMLA, state-specific), and key deadlines
Recruiting & Onboarding Support
- Post job openings and managing applicant tracking
- Coordinate interviews and candidate communications
- Assist with offer letters and pre-employment steps
- Support Day 1 onboarding
Other Responsibilities
- Other HR functions as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of payroll experience (multi-state, W-2/1099, reimbursements)
- 3-5 years HR administration experience (recruiting, onboarding, file management)
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Comfortable using HR systems and juggling multiple priorities
- Organized, process-minded, and committed to confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience supporting field-based teams (e.g., clinicians or remote staff)
- Knowledge of FMLA, state leave laws, and wage & hour compliance
Pay and Benefits
- The expected salary for this role is $55,000–$65,000 a year depending on experience, qualifications.
