Purpose:

Athene USA and its subsidiaries are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and proactive attorney to join their vibrant legal team in West Des Moines, Iowa. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support across multiple business areas, focusing on contracts, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and annuity products. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting Senior Counsel with various high-impact projects, collaborating on retail operations initiatives, and supporting corporate procurement functions. They will act as a trusted legal resource for personnel at all levels, ensuring timely and effective legal support while serving as a subject matter expert in key legal areas.

Accountabilities:

• Provide legal guidance and day-to-day support across multiple business areas, addressing a wide range of issues related to contracts, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance (local, state, and federal), and the issuance, administration, and distribution of Athene annuity products.
• Assist Senior Counsel with various projects, including collaboration with business partners on retail operations initiatives and support for corporate procurement functions.
• Act as a legal resource for personnel at all levels, ensuring timely, effective legal support and serving as a subject matter expert in key legal areas as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

• J.D. degree with strong academic credentials required; admission and good standing in the Iowa Bar preferred.
• Minimum of six years of legal experience in a general corporate or related practice, with a strong background in contracts, complex transactions, and legal research.  Experience with ERISA or tax matters in the financial services or insurance sector is a plus.
• Prior experience at a top-tier law firm and/or as in-house counsel preferred.
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects, work cross-functionally, and deliver high-quality legal services in a timely manner.
• Excellent judgment, commercial acumen, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong team player with the ability to work independently while collaborating across divisions.
• High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Some travel may be required.
