Purpose:
The VP of Athene Model Risk is responsible for oversight of model risk at Athene, reporting to the AGM Head of Model Risk. They will lead the model risk management working group at Athene, report on model risk to the operational risk committee, management risk committee and board risk committee. They will have ownership of the Athene model risk management policy, monitor compliance and work with the business to achieve and maintain compliance with the policy. Where independent model validation is required, they will either execute validations or oversee validation efforts by other independent parties. The scope of models will be investment, deal, pricing, financial planning, derivative and other models used throughout the organization. They will analyze and critiquing models, understanding their application and interconnectedness, conducting necessary testing, and reporting on the findings and providing potential solutions to any issues.Accountabilities:
- Ownership of the Athene model risk management policy, ensuring compliance and reporting to management of the state of model risk at Athene
- Support of Model Risk Management working group
- Keeping up to date with model risk management regulatory requirements and ensuring Athene maintains compliance
- Establish key relationships with the business to foster model risk awareness and culture across: Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Tax, Treasury, Derivatives, Finance, Internal and External Auditors
- Continued canvassing of the business for new models or significant model changes
- Active management of model inventory within the model risk management system
- Executing independent validations
- Planning and overseeing independent validations from internal or external subject matter experts
- Be an effective challenger to first line model owners and developers
- Present findings to internal and/or external stakeholders
- Provide support to internal and external auditors
Qualifications and Experience:
- 10 years of financial institution experience in a quantitative, Risk Management or actuarial role with asset and liability model development or validation
- Strong familiarity with insurance and financial models
- CFA, PRM, FRM or FSA desired
- Experience validating complex models and knowledge of complex investments and financial markets preferred
- Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills and the ability to develop working relationships are required
- Experience with US Statutory and US GAAP Accounting and Reporting would be beneficial
- Strong technical, analytical, organizational, computer and team skills required
- Proven leadership experience and the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the company
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Actuarial Science, Quantitative Finance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering required
