JOB TITLE: Behavior Specialist

Salary Schedule: NI

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or Master's and Certification in ABA, required (Board Certified Behavior Analyst).
  • Experience working with students with developmental disabilities, emotional disabilities, autism, and/ or problems with self-control and self-esteem preferred.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

REPORTS TO: Exceptional Services Coordinator


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan.
  • Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) services for students as needed for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Create and help District staff with the development of implementation of functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans for individual students.
  • Plan and oversee the development and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices related to instruction using the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for students with Autism and other disabilities.
  • Consult with teachers of special needs and regular education students with severe behavior problems.
  • Work and assist District Staff with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with students who exhibit such.
  • Collect data and prepare a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting students' progress.
  • Conduct parent training for guidance on dealing with students who exhibit challenging behavior in the home as well as in the school setting.
  • Confer with members of the IEP team and district staff and other related team members, individually, at an IEP meeting, or in conference to exchange, discuss, and evaluate student information for planning, and modifying student's plans.
  • Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of teacher duties and responsibilities.
  • To abide by the standards established for teachers' professional and personal conduct by the printed and published Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative working relationship with parents and community.
  • Promote good public relations for school and school system with the general public.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • To establish rapport and work constructively with staff, student's parents, and community members.
  • Experience in planning appropriate staff development related to dealing with students exhibiting behavior/emotional problems.
  • Experience in writing behavioral intervention and support plans.
  • To creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution process.
  • To maintain knowledge of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
