Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to select, based on pre-developed criteria, and provide intensive supervision and oversight of residents qualified for the Diversion Center Program. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: selecting qualified residents, developing a comprehensive work, skills, and training program for each resident based upon individual needs for each resident for the purpose of reducing recidivism, maintaining case files, providing counseling, supervising residents in their effort to complete their assigned program, and insure the residents under the case worker's supervision are closely monitored for eventual success in the program. To perform additional tasks as assigned.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
Emergency Position
This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.
Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or Sociology with two years of experience in a corrections, law enforcement, legal, clinical or case management setting required, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Master's degree preferred.
Requires ability to meet current certification requirements set forth in the Georgia Basic Correctional Officer Training program and obtain BCOT Certification in Corrections within twelve months of hire date.
Position requires a twelve-month probationary period.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs initial intake assessment and criminogenic review of potential residents and their needs upon entering the program
Conducts interviews with residents and potential (and possibly family members) to identify and address the presence of any risk factors.
Creates individualized case plans for residents.
Conducts work assessment checks.
Monitor's and documents resident's compliance with program and court requirements (including reporting, fine and fee payment, performance of community service, and completion of courses, evaluations, counseling and treatment programs.
Participates in drug and alcohol training and testing in order to provide proper supervision.
Establishes appropriate location for any community service requirements with each offender.
Receives, researches, and responds to concerns, inquiries and complaints from employers, various law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
Prepares and maintains computer database records of residents and monitors their progress.
Facilitates and arranges the necessary education and counseling applicable to the resident's case; monitors attendance and compliance closely.
Provides direct individual counseling for residents.
Enters work schedules on the computer for residents.
Appears in court to make recommendations regarding further action on cases; may be involved in making recommendations to the court.
Collects and review check/pay stubs for accuracy.
Establishes and updates dispositional reports, summaries and case files, including all necessary legal documentation for possible revocation hearings.
Co-chairs Diversion Center Classification Committee meetings.
Acts as liaison for the program, coordinates programs with the Sheriff's Office, Probation Office, court, attorneys, and outside program providers.
Determines potential problem residents and assists in resolving problems.
Makes regular job site visits to resident's place of employment.
Presents data, suggestions, and information to the Superintendent or Warden on occasion and as required.
May transport residents when needed to and from the diversion center.
Conducts and documents meaningful contacts with residents in Georgia Department of Corrections Scribe database.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the Corrections department as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Diversion Center Case Worker.
Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and/or ordinances related to the work release, alternative incarceration of offenders, or incarceration of offenders.
Knowledge and application of the principles and dynamics of Evidence Based Practices in Community and Residential Corrections.
Knowledge of counseling and evaluation of persons, record-keeping systems, and corrections/security procedures.
Skill to deliver tasks associated with position, such as interpersonal communications, observation of behavior of individuals, interviewing and vocational assessment and use of self-defense techniques.
Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and/or governmental regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, and other staff members.
Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to utilize and understand computer applications and techniques as necessary in the completion of daily assignments.
