Assistant Director of Discipleship

Athens First Methodist is seeking an Assistant Director of Discipleship to support our growing and vibrant church community. This role will directly support the Minister of Discipleship, providing leadership and support across multiple ministries, including hospitality and adult small groups. Additionally, this position will provide support to the Director of Student Ministries. The ideal candidate is comfortable working and teaching students and adults, has a heart for discipleship, and possesses strong organizational skills.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 2 years of experience in a church or ministry setting desired.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, volunteers, and congregation members.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic knowledge of church management software.
• A strong, personal commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of the church.

Key Responsibilities:

In coordination with the Minister of Discipleship, this position will strategically work to support the growing Discipleship Ministries of Athens First UMC. This coordination will include fluid movement between the following areas:

Student Ministries

• Work closely with the Director of Student Ministries to plan and execute programs for middle and high school students.
• Build relationships with students, providing spiritual guidance and support.
• Lead Sunday evening lessons for the Middle School ministry, tailoring the messaging to the spiritual and developmental needs of students in alignment with the Director of Student Ministries.
• Coordinate with the Director of Student Ministries for events, retreats, and mission opportunities.

Hospitality Ministry Support

• Collaborate with the Minister of Discipleship to support hospitality teams and their efforts to create a welcoming environment for all church events and services.
• Assist in the recruitment, training, and scheduling of hospitality volunteers.
• Help design and implement initiatives to engage newcomers and foster community connections.

Adult Small Groups

• Provide support to the Director of Small Group Ministry, including setting up meeting spaces and assisting with coordination of neighborhood groups.
• Assist in developing strategies to encourage participation and growth within Adult Discipleship.
• Occasionally lead small group sessions or Bible Studies as needed.

Discipleship Ministries Support

• With guidance from the Minister of Discipleship, support church-wide special events as well as worship services related to this ministry area (ex. Confirmation, Graduation Sunday, Youth Sunday, etc.).
• Offer support on Sunday mornings to all Directors on the Discipleship Ministry Team. This includes supporting Sunday Schools, hospitality teams, and College/Young Adult Lunch gatherings.
• Oversee the procurement of materials and supplies needed for ministry activities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
