What are the responsibilities and job description for the Porter position at Athens Housing Authority?
Position Summary
Performs part-time litter control at assigned Housing Authority locations not to exceed twelve hours during any calendar week. Duties are specifically limited to the removal of paper and other litter such as bottles and cans that are normally associated with the term “litter” and properly disposing of this trash in approved receptacles such as trashcans or dumpsters controlled by the Authority. The Resident Grounds-Worker is responsible to dress for the weather. The continued part-time position of Resident Grounds-Worker is subject to the availability and approval of annual funding as dispensed and administered through the Authority’s annual budget.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Removal of paper and other litter from AHA sites and properties as assigned.
2. Must practice safety precautions and be safety-conscious at all times.
3. Operates and maintains the security of hand-tools issued to them by the Authority such as trash pickup devices, brooms or other similar tools.
4. Uses, maintains, and in some cases properly disposes of portable trash containers such as plastic trash bags.
5. Reports to immediate supervisor any items requiring maintenance and any unusual or unsafe conditions.

Physical Requirements

2. Ability to stoop and kneel in order to gain access to work areas.
3. Ability to work while standing for extended periods of time.

Minimum Education, Training, and/or Experience
1. Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
2. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience necessary to meet the required knowledge and abilities is sufficient.
Special Requirements
1. Must be a current resident in good standing of the Athens Housing Authority.
2. Must not have been convicted of nor on probation or parole for offenses requiring the listing on any active sex registry such as the one maintained by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.
3. Must not be on current probation or parole for offenses involving the sale of illegal drugs.
