Fort Bend Christian Academy is looking for a Head Basketball Coach who sees athletics as an opportunity to glorify God and enjoy Him by discipling players off the field, striving for excellence on the field, loving our neighbors through the field, and sending our players out as instruments of righteousness into the world.

Qualifications:

  2. The applicant shall be one who follows Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and can articulate the Gospel and their testimony in any situation.
  3. The applicant has a strong history of active participation, attendance, or membership in a church with doctrine and beliefs that are in alignment with the school’s Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality and have multiple references able to verify the same.
  4. The applicant will provide examples of systematically using the game of Basketball to disciple young people in the past and can point to former players out in the world currently doing the same thing (Proverbs 22:6).
  5. The applicant has proven success as a Head Coach or coordinator at the varsity level in a private school or UIL 3A level and above.
  6. The applicant will be able to give tangible evidence of investing in their community for God’s glory.
  7. The applicant shall be a college graduate and one who is passionate about the school’s mission and believes that serving in Christian education would be pleasing to God and good stewardship of their gifts and talents.

 

Job Duties:

 

Spiritual:

  1. Systematically create opportunities to share the Gospel and grow disciples through the game of Basketball (Mathew 4:19).
  2. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ (Psalm 62:1-2).
  3. Coach in a way that gives glory to God through the game of Basketball (Colossians 3:23).
  4. Serve as a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions, a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).
  5. Show by example the importance of Scripture memorization and study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in Christian fellowship (Psalm 119:11).
  6. Create opportunities to use the game of Basketball as a vehicle to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31).
  7. Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.

 

Personal:

  1. Demonstrate the character qualities of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in their interactions with others.
  2. Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  3. Respectfully submit and demonstrate loyalty to constituted authority.
  4. Maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste, in agreement with school policy.
  5. Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.
  6. Recognize the need for good public relations.
  7. Make an effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the community.

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Cooperate with administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school (Romans 13).
  2. Demonstrate a familiarity with the operations of a school athletic program and possess the personality and administrative skills required for success (Luke 12:42-48).
  3. Maintain regularly scheduled hours as assigned by the supervisor.
  4. Keep students, parents, coaches and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure (Matthew 5:37).
  5. Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered work environment.
  6. Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.

 

Professional:

  1. Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth including the systematic scheduling of athletic events around all on-campus staff development opportunities.
  2. Seek the counsel of the principal, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  3. Provide input and recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
  4. Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service retreats, committee, and faculty meetings.
  5. Follow established procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature. Maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  6. Contribute to the general improvement of the school program.
  7. Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately.

 

Upper School Head Basketball Coach:

  1. Set up a systematic plan for using the game of Basketball to disciple athletes daily.
  2. Oversee the entire Upper School & Middle School Basketball program, including but not limited to promotion of the Basketball program. Develop practice and game schedules, monitor and enforce student eligibility for extracurricular participation, oversee cleaning, repair and secure storage of equipment and uniforms, ensure compliance with all TAPPS regulations.
  3. Work with the Athletic Director in hiring and supervision of basketball coaching assistants.
  4. Implement preseason, in-season, postseason and offseason plans - including summer camps.
  5. Basketball administrative duties such as picking officials, scheduling sub-varsity games, etc.

 

 Athletic Department Administrative Duties:

  1. Responsible for all administrative issues and schedules regarding Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Trainers, MS & US Cheerleading, Dance, MS & US Girls Basketball, US & MS Girls Soccer, US & MS Softball, US & MS Tennis.
  2. Point of contact for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Fort Bend Christian Academy and responsible for developing the student leadership team, creating meeting schedules, bringing in speakers and getting student athletes enrolled in camp opportunities.
  3. Liaison between Athletic Department and Communications and Marketing Department and responsible for overseeing and coordinating all Athletic Department social media posts.
  4. Liaison between Athletic Department and Communications and Information Technology Department and responsible for overseeing and coordinating all technology projects.
  5. Assist with the management of all TAPPS competitive activities that occur at the home campus as well as additional tournaments/meets held by FBCA.
  6. Coordinate and evaluate the daily laundry schedule.
  7. Coordinate and evaluate the daily Administrator on Duty schedule and the Field House opening and closing schedule.
  8. Conduct TAPPS compliance meetings/EOS for assigned programs.
  9. Direct playoff arrangements for all assigned programs.
  10. Assist business and operations director in budget planning for all upper school athletics and middle school athletics.
  11. Serve as athletic advisor for athletic construction projects and building modifications.
  12. Liaison between the Athletic Department and Construction and Facilities and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all department projects.
  13. Work with the Director of Facilities to ensure all athletic fields are safe for use.
  14. Coordinate and schedule yearly JH/US gym floor refinishing.
  15. Coordinate college recruiting for all sports on campus by working with the college counseling department to create a plan to systematically prepare our student athletes for opportunities to play college sports.
  16. Oversee all facility rental agreements with the Business Office and coordinate a systematic evaluation process of those agreements.
  17. Evaluate athletic staff as assigned.
  18. Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, including in an outdoor environment.
  2. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, reach overhead, frequently lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  3. This position is an exempt, twelve month, full-time assignment. He/she is eligible for full-time benefits. The position regularly requires that work be performed evenings and weekends. This job description is subject to change during the school year.
