JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Fayetteville Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Strength, Conditioning, and Nutrition Coach to work with athletes across all sports from grades 7 through 12. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strength and conditioning programs, as well as providing nutrition guidance to ensure student-athletes excel in performance while prioritizing their overall health and well-being.

This position will collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and school administration to deliver comprehensive athletic development programs for student-athletes at the middle school and high school levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strength & Conditioning Program Development:
    Support the athletic administration in the design and implementation of sport-specific, year-round strength and conditioning programs that align with the needs of student-athletes in grades 7 through 12. Programs should focus on improving overall performance, strength, endurance, agility, and injury prevention.
    • Develop individual programs for students with specific needs or goals.
    • Adapt programs for different sports seasons and age groups.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Assess student-athletes’ progress and make adjustments to programs as needed.
    • Conduct performance assessments and provide feedback to athletes and coaches.
    • Maintain detailed records of training, progress, and performance metrics for all athletes.
  • Nutrition Guidance:
    • Provide personalized nutrition counseling and advice to student-athletes to optimize athletic performance and recovery.
    • Develop nutrition plans to help athletes achieve their physical goals, maintain healthy body composition, and stay energized throughout the season.
    • Educate athletes on the importance of hydration, supplementation, and proper fueling.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with head coaches and athletic trainers to ensure athletes’ strength and conditioning programs are integrated with their sport-specific training.
    • Serve as a resource for coaches and athletes regarding fitness, injury prevention, and recovery strategies.
    • Educate and engage student-athletes in developing a comprehensive understanding of athletic training and nutrition.
  • Safety & Injury Prevention:
    • Monitor all strength and conditioning sessions to ensure safety and proper technique is being used.
    • Identify signs of overtraining and provide appropriate recommendations.
    • Assist with injury prevention strategies and recovery protocols.
  • Supervision and Leadership:
    • Supervise training sessions and maintain a positive, motivating environment for all athletes.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance for student-athletes to foster both athletic and personal growth.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    • Attend and contribute to team meetings as needed.
    • Stay current on new developments in strength training, conditioning, and nutrition by pursuing ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a related field.
    • Certification in Strength and Conditioning (CSCS preferred) or equivalent.
    • Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN) or similar certification is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach or similar role in a school, collegiate, or professional sports setting is required.
    • Experience working with athletes of various ages and skill levels, especially at the middle and high school level, is preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • In-depth knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and best practices.
    • Strong understanding of sport-specific training and recovery strategies.
    • Ability to develop individualized training plans and provide effective feedback.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate athletes of all skill levels.
    • Knowledge of nutrition principles and the ability to provide guidance to athletes for optimal performance.
  • Certifications:
    • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
    • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed for off-site events or training.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper exercise techniques and participate in training as needed.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as necessary to accommodate sports schedules.

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with Board approved salary schedules. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan options, and other benefits provided by Fayetteville Public Schools.

 

Contract length:  215 days per year
