What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seat Upholstery/ Sewing Technician position at ATL Sprinters?
ATL Vans is seeking a skilled Automotive Upholstery Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for seat recovering and upholstery work on a variety of vehicles, particularly Sprinter vans. The ideal candidate will have experience working with heavy vinyl materials, be proficient in operating commercial sewing machines, and understand the importance of airbag sensitivity when upholstering front driver and passenger seats. Experience in marine upholstery is a significant plus.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Seat Recovering & Upholstery Installation – Remove and replace seat covers, ensuring a high-quality finish.
✔ Airbag Sensitivity & Compliance – Work with front seat airbags to ensure proper alignment and safety compliance.
✔ Commercial Sewing Machine Operation – Stitch heavy-duty vinyl, leather, and other upholstery materials with precision.
✔ Material Cutting & Assembly – Measure, cut, and assemble upholstery pieces to fit exact vehicle specifications.
✔ Pattern Making & Customization – Create patterns for seats and other interior components when necessary.
✔ Repair & Refinishing – Fix minor upholstery issues, including foam replacement and seat structure adjustments.
✔ Quality Control – Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and industry standards.
✔ Collaboration & Efficiency – Work closely with other team members to complete projects on time and at the highest quality.
✔ Marine Upholstery Experience (Preferred) – Knowledge of water-resistant and UV-resistant materials is a major advantage.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience in automotive upholstery
Strong knowledge of airbag safety considerations when working on vehicle seats.
Proficient in using industrial sewing machines for heavy materials.
Comfortable working with heavy vinyl, leather, and other upholstery fabrics.
Ability to read and interpret patterns and templates for custom work.
Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials.
Marine upholstery experience is a big plus.
