We are seeking a highly skilled Smart Van Systems Technician to design, develop, and implement a Raspberry Pi-based automation and communication system for our advanced Sprinter van builds. This role involves integrating video streaming, two-way communication, HVAC controls, lighting, security, and power management into a unified system. The ideal candidate has expertise in embedded systems, networking, IoT, and vehicle electronics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a Raspberry Pi-based smart automation system for Sprinter van conversions.
- Develop real-time video streaming solutions using Pi cameras and MotionEyeOS.
- Set up a two-way intercom system for communication between the driver and passengers.
- Integrate HVAC, lighting, security, and power management into a unified control interface.
- Write and optimize Python scripts for automation, monitoring, and remote access.
- Implement Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connectivity to enable remote control.
- Configure voice activation and push-to-talk capabilities using ReSpeaker or similar technologies.
- Ensure seamless integration with Home Assistant, MQTT, or other smart home platforms.
- Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, ensuring real-time operation with minimal latency.
- Work closely with upfitters, electricians, and vehicle engineers to ensure compatibility with existing systems.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Open to part time in the office and remote work
- Proficiency in Python, Linux, and Raspberry Pi development.
- Strong knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
- Experience with automotive electronics, sensors, and vehicle integration.
- Familiarity with video streaming technologies (FFmpeg, MotionEyeOS, RTSP).
- Hands-on experience configuring smart home or automation systems (Home Assistant, Node-RED, etc.).
- Ability to design and solder custom PCB circuits for automation and relay control.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CAN Bus integration..
- Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and energy optimization.
