Position Summary
Operate/drive heavy construction equipment (forklift) to ensure the accurate removal and placement of lumber material in a lumber yard.
General Responsibilities:
- Load/Unload trucks with designated lumber
- Load stacks of lumber onto yard stackers, tilt hoist machine, and kilns.
- Unload incoming lumber into storage areas
- Pull/Stage orders for delivery with extreme accuracy
- Performs preventive maintenance
- Operates construction class vehicle/forklift
- Operate vehicle with safety precautions in place
- Works as part of a team under strict deadlines
- Expected to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions
- Wear safety gear at all times
- Attend all safety trainings
General Requirements:
- 5 years heavy equipment driving experience preferred
- 3 years forklift driving experience
- 1 year experience operating 30,000 lb. forklift
- Dedication and strong work ethic/attitude required
- Sense of timing: Efficiency and drive to keep business on tract. Ability to forecast and stay ahead of production to ensure yard stays fully equipped and staged for future runs. Ability to read the environment and react.
- Ability to provide suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.
- Ability to communicate with coworkers to explain project specifications, as needed.
- Proper attendance required: on time and at work every scheduled workday
- Ability to complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation.
- Attention to detail/critical thinking
- Ability to multi-task and take initiative
- Ability to unload, upload, stack material
- Ability to read & write

General Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery (yard forklift).
- Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds at a time.
- Work safely in an industrial environment and follow all safety rules & regulations

- Hearing protection is recommended but required in areas such as:
- All remanufacturing buildings
- All moulding buildings
- Planer operations
- Breakdown buildings
- Safety glasses – in required areas such as:
- All remanufacturing buildings
- All moulding building
- Planer operations
- Goggles/face shield when operating wood hog
- Lock out/tag out is to be practiced – equipment should be locked out for safety before entering or working. Observe and respect locks and tags on equipment without tampering.
- Observe all safety chains and posted “KEEP OUT” areas – do not enter unless locked out
- Know the locations of the fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency evacuation maps within each building/area
- Forklift and truck traffic is heavy in most areas, always pay attention to your surroundings. Walk inside the painted lines at those locations that have marked pedestrian walkways.
- Report all accidents or potential hazards to the supervisor immediately
