Description
Under the direction of the Director of the Animal Protection Unit (APU), this position provides logistical, administrative, and animal care support to the entire APU team during deployments, trainings, and other department related activities. As a core member of the response team this position deploys frequently and serves as the primary transport driver for animals being brought back to AHS from APU field operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as an active core member of the APU response team with the ability to respond on a moment’s notice for field operations within and outside the state; this includes being a primary driver of AHS Sprinter and transport vehicles, to and from operational sites
- Assist with planning and the acquisition of needs for deployments including hotel rooms, equipment and supplies
- Ensure that trailers, APU vehicles and other equipment items are clean, organized and stocked/restocked as needed, including maintaining a supply inventory inside the trailers
- Maintain close communication with remote inspectors to ensure they are provisioned/restocked with deployment supplies
- Provide regular updates and communications to shelter, foster, and management teams at primary work location during field operations
- Work closely with the Fleet and Facilities Team to communicate and arrange routine and incidental maintenance for APU vehicles and equipment
- Coordinate logistics for training events given by or attended by the APU
- Provide direct, humane care to animals in the field and at AHS emergency sheltering facilities
- Ensure emergency facilities are cleaned, organized and restocked as needed between operations, including maintaining the supply inventory inside the emergency shelter and setting up animal accommodations ahead of major deployments
- Handle, care for, and transport animals in accordance with AHS best practices and Fear Free principles
- Provide administrative and logistical support during shelter consultations and related to grants administered by the organization
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current GA driver’s license with favorable driving record; insurable by AHS insurance provider
- Animal behavior and handling experience required
- Excellent phone etiquette
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Customer Service driven
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Cornerstone and/or Pet Point software experience preferred
- Performs work in an office setting with some remote working
- Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches
- Frequent walking, standing, bending and stooping
- Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50lbs, with reasonable accommodations
