About the Horizons Program
Horizons Atlanta at Atlanta International School (AIS) is a community-centered education program supporting students from Atlanta Public Schools. Horizons Atlanta at AIS advances educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning. The main component of Horizons is a six-week summer program located on the campus of AIS, where students participate in academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities, including teaching all students how to swim.
The emphasis on international context and language learning at AIS plays a critical role in the design of our curriculum and program. Horizons Atlanta at AIS launched in 2016 with 41 students and will serve 135 students at full enrollment.
About the position
Horizons Atlanta at AIS is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher Assistant with a dynamic talent of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of learning in children. We are seeking a professional, caring individual with the ability to implement strategies to engage students in active learning through non-traditional ways. The candidate must work as a team player to help fulfill the Horizons’ mission.
This is a seasonal position from June 10 through July 19, 2024. The hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM. This position is not eligible for full-time benefits.

Key Responsibilities
Before the summer program begins:
- Attend a paid orientation
- Meet with the Lead Teacher and Program Leaders, as needed, to support the design and preparation of high quality, culturally responsive, project-based curriculum to engage students in learning language arts, math, and science throughout our six-week summer enrichment program.
During the summer program:
- Assist in planning community-building and enriching experiential learning opportunities.
- Assist with classroom duties, including whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one instruction.
- Build on each youth's academic strengths using resources and activities to best address their areas of need.
- Accompany and support students during swim lessons and field trips.
- Support the development of a safe, respectful, challenging, and fun learning environment.
- Assist in evaluating student progress and program effectiveness.
- Assist in bus loading/dorp off at AIS in the morning and afternoon.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as determined by Horizons Atlanta at AIS.
Skills and Qualifications
- In addition to a strong commitment to Horizon’s mission, this position requires some knowledge of best practices and experience as a classroom teacher.
- The ideal candidate for the Assistant Teacher position must be flexible, well-organized, capable of taking initiative, and enthusiastic for both teaching and learning.
- Proven ability to relate well to children and families from a variety of backgrounds.

Salary and Benefits
- This position will be paid bi-weekly during the summer
- The program will be closed on June 19th and July 4th and 5th
- Childcare is available for children grades 4K through Grade 5 during work hours
